Sony Ericsson Now Accepting Application Submissions

Sony Ericsson says it will begin accepting application submissions from all developers. Applications can be submitted to PlayNow arena as well as to the established application service, Fun & Downloads.

Initially, developers for Java ME and Symbian OS are invited to become part of the ecosystem, which gives access to an installed base of more than 200 million Sony Ericsson phone users. Later this year, the process will cover additional mobile software platforms.

Starting today, the Sony Ericsson application submission site http://submit.sonyericsson.com/ is open to all developers. Applications can be submitted to PlayNow arena as well as to the established application service, Fun & Downloads. SonyEricsson’s program promises distribution to 69 markets and 70% share from net revenue.

GetJar Exceeds Half a Billion Downloads

GetJar announced that consumers have downloaded more than half a billion mobile apps. According to GetJar its store now hosts nearly 50,000 mobile applications available in more than 200 different countries. More than half of its customers download content at least once a week.

The most popular applications in GetJar are:

Google Maps for mobile – over 5 million downloads
mig33 mobile community – over 10 million downloads
Opera Mini web browser – nearly 17 million downloads
eBuddy instant messaging – over 16 million downloads
Nimbuzz mobile messaging – nearly 14 million downloads

This announcement comes a day after Apple reported its App Store topped the 1.5 billion iPhone and iPod touch application download benchmark.

Apple App Store Exceeds 1.5 Billion Downloads

Apple announced that consumers have now downloaded more than 1.5 billion iPhone and iPod touch applications over the previous 12 months. The App Store currenlty offers more than 65,000 apps in 77 countries.

LG Application Store Launched

LG officially launched their application store, with more than 1400 apps already available for download. The LG app store is currently available in Australia and Singapore, and will be launched in 22 more countries with 14 different languages supported by the end of the year. The number of available applications is also planned to grow beyond 2000 by that time.

Currently, the app store only provides content for the two most recent WinMo-powered handsets of the LG: GM730 and KS20. The company promises, however, that more handsets will join the list in the coming months.
