Android Mobile Internet Access overtakes Windows Mobile

google_android_logoAndroid is blasting off past Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. AdMob’s June 2009 Mobile Metrics Report says Android traffic has increased 25 percent month over month. Among mobile operating systems, Android now has a global market share of five percent, which puts it ahead of Windows Mobile.

Apple’s mobile platform remains popular, and its devices accounted for nearly 43% of all U.S. ad requests. The report also broke down requests by region, and estimated that 54% of the 45 million iPhone and iPod Touch users were in the United States.

  1. From a writer’s point of view, these figures are pointless as the sample is too low and is skewed heavily towards those OSes that support apps that include AdMob’s technology. It’s not surprising that WinMo is low, seeing as most WinMo phones ship with few 3rd party apps, and therefore are unlikely to score high on this survey.

    Lies, damn lies and statistics…
